What is Mountain Outfitters?

Mountain Outfitters is a locally run, locally owned, and locally invested independent outdoor specialty goods retailer based in Monteagle, Tennessee. With a dedicated staff of local employees, Mountain Outfitters offers the very best outdoor apparel and equipment from top brands such as Arc'teryx, Patagonia, Mountain Hardwear, Marmot, The North Face, Columbia, Chaco, Keen, Oboz, Merrell, Salomon, Carhartt, Woolrich, and many others. We have a 20-foot in-store climbing wall on which we’d be happy to belay you or your kids—whether to try out a new pair of climbing shoes or just to have fun! We strive to ensure that our customers are both comfortable and safe exploring the area surrounding Monteagle or anywhere in the world one might choose to explore the call of the great outdoors!
While the broader outdoor retail industry often targets the most aggressive, hardcore ranks of outdoorsmen and outdoorswomen, we at Mountain Outfitters recognize that most of our customers are much more casual in their approach to the backcountry. We want to encourage everyone to set his or her own goals for exploring the outdoors. Over time, we hope that we can help our customers reconnect with nature and the world around us. We believe that by fostering ecological awareness and first hand experience with nature, we all can become better stewards of the environment and our world. We want you to reach your peak and hope to provide whatever gear or information you might need.

Who are we?

Our staff is made up of local individuals who have grown up in the area and who are all lifelong outdoor enthusiasts willing and able to help you find the gear you need. We all have a thorough understanding of the outdoor industry standards and recent innovations which will help you focus on the beauty of the outdoors instead of worrying about your gear. Our staff has an exhaustive knowledge of the geography of the Mountain and of all the surrounding wilderness recreation areas. As members of our local community, we use outdoor retail as a platform to encourage outdoor recreation and environmental stewardship while also working to improve access to the backcountry. At our brick and mortar location as well as on our website we provide quality equipment for hiking, climbing, camping, trail running, and yoga. We work hard to provide the most value to our customers interested in escaping to the wilderness.
While recognizing the importance of communing with nature wherever we find it, we must acknowledge a special connection to the Cumberland Plateau where we are found. We aim to help anyone looking to see the beauty of this special region by providing information about our home and any gear you might need in your wanderings. Stop in to our shop just off of I-24 (exit 134) in Monteagle and ask us about it—we are always happy to help you reach your peak!
